People ask me this every single day. I have a story about working in a call center, um, as probably I was 16, I may have been 15 years old. Um, so the, so the question that people ask me is, should they set up their [inaudible] with legal zoom? It’s the strangest thing because people will set up a time to talk with me like a free consultation. We’ll get on the phones having to meet at least once a day. I’ll spend 30 minutes answering their questions about the [inaudible] and, and, you know, they understand that I have a company that sets up all season and at the end of the thing they’re just like. So I should just use legal zoom, right? It’s like what the hell is going on? Because I, I charge the same price as legal zoom. I have obviously demonstrated value. Um, that’s more valuable than legals in whatever bill to give you.
So I’ve worked in the same building that [inaudible] was in. It’s one of the reasons I started my llc business. Here’s what legal zoom is like on the inside. Legal Zoom has a hell of a brand. Um, and, and what they do, there’s nothing necessarily wrong with what they do, but all bay, essentially all they have is just a website with a call center and all the, all the service that they provide is, is just, uh, a website. That’s it. So, I mean, that’s fine. I mean, I have a website as well where you can set up a sees. It’s just a form. It’s just filling out a form, but it’s, do you know what to put in the blanks properly, you know, do you know what’s right for what type of business you’re in? And obviously you don’t like it. There’s no question that you don’t.
So anyway, I worked at a call center when I was a kid for. I worked at several different, a telemarketing jobs. I worked one where it was like vacation rentals sales where you’re just like straight cold calling people and basically telling them like, hey, you come to this timeshare thing and you can get two free tickets on a cruise or whatever, you know, just some bs that the company it would have you do. And it’s just kind of crafty salesmanship. I wasn’t great at that. Um, I wasn’t the worst but I wasn’t the best friend of mine that I went to high school with really was the best, like keep rocking it up in the company and for all I know he like runs that company now. Um, but it was a bunch of kids working there. Like the oldest person there was probably like 30 and that’s the guy who was running [inaudible] to people who are underneath them. The rest of the people there on average work anywhere from 15 years old to 22 years old or something. And it paid like
for a 15 year. It was like, at that time you gotta remember, this is like 20 years ago, it probably paid like 10 bucks an hour or something, which was double what any you could get anywhere else, uh, as before you’re 18 years old, you know, like working at minimum wage because you couldn’t wait tables really or anything when you deliver pizzas until you have a driver’s license. I didn’t have a driver’s license yet until I was 16. So, um, yeah, there wasn’t, like, it was a great job for that. But I’m telling you what, I worked in the same building as legal zoom I worked at, I was working for a
reviewing documents for a little, a big lawsuit involving pharmaceutical companies. That’s basically all I can say about that. Anyway, it was a big space that was rented cars. There were millions of documents that had to be going, you know, people had to go through, um, and a bunch of attorneys worked on this job regardless. There wasn’t like a big deal when we were doing. It was kind of like a crappy job as well as right after I got barred. But a legal zoom was in the same building. This was an Austin, and this was like probably two years ago. The people who worked at legal zoom, all good people of Austin, nothing wrong with Boston and nothing wrong with like hipster people, but they were like the same type of people that worked in the call center when I was a kid. I’m sure they don’t have 16 year olds working there.
They’re like, you probably had to be 18, but that was probably the only requirement for working at legal zoom is that you’re 18 years old. It’s not like you have to have any expertise. They understand the yellow probably maybe a tiny bit better than you do. Which is to say if, if you’re, if you’re reaching out to me about little, you probably don’t understand them. That’s fine. You don’t need to understand them. That’s the point of somebody like me. But if you’re, if you’re having somebody set up your llc, it doesn’t make sense to, to hire some, a company that that’s what they do just because they have a great brand. Um, and I don’t hate legal zoom, but I do, I am motivated by what I saw there to say like this isn’t a good solution for business owners. Like they do a lot of things that are convenient and that are good and that’s fine, but the solution that they’re providing for business owners when it comes to [inaudible] specifically is a sub-par and overpriced for what you’re getting.
Really. You should be able to pay the whole thing for what they give you for like 20 bucks because that’s about the value that they provide. When I look at it, I mean they have a very nice website and that’s fine. But uh, and there’s nothing wrong with that. And there’s, there’s hate them because they’re a competitor. I don’t hate them really at all. But I hate that people think that they’re the gold standard of a, creating a business when really they’re like the garage sale version of creating business. And that’s, I, you know, I want to compete with them. And eventually. So if you follow Gary, Gary v, like one of the things he wants to do that he knows he’s never going to do is buy the jets. Like that’s like his goal that drives him forward and like all of his businesses, it’s like he wants to make billions, billions of dollars.
We can buy the jets. If you followed a real close, you’ve heard him say like he knows he’s never going to buy the jets. He knows that’s never going to happen. That would ruin the fantasy and he doesn’t really actually want to buy the jets. But that’s just a way of showing how motivated and driven he is. Well, I want my company, I want to. I want to have a company that as far as the [inaudible] are concerned, I don’t want to do wills and all the other forms and stuff that legal zoom does. Like I don’t want to provide like cheap divorce options for people, but I do want to be the gold standard for [inaudible]. I want to knock them off the pedals pedastool for creating more [inaudible] for more entrepreneurs. Legal Zoom. Like, that’s my goal with my company and I know I’m not even nearly there and probably will never get close to being there because they’re billion dollar companies not owned by like a bunch of attorneys are something that are driven to help people and provide legal solutions.
It’s owned by a billionaire investors. That’s who owns legals and that’s why that’s what’s driving that forward and that’s why they, you see their ads everywhere because there’s some really smart business people behind legal zoom, but their purpose is just to drive a lot of traffic and make a lot of money and basically the garage sale version of like legal documents and legal help. Um, and more power to have them, you know, that’s fun. But if, if I have anything to say about it, I’m going to knock them off as far as helping people and provide a, an actual decent solution for entrepreneurs when it comes to understanding a little c and getting, getting their llc set up quickly and cheaply. Like I can set it up at the same price twice as fast and twice as accurately. And you know, maybe I don’t provide like a stupid little binder that they provide that. So just a dust collector piece of garbage that just doesn’t serve any purpose is perceived value. There’s no value to it. Um, but I don’t provide that because it’s unnecessary. There’s no reason for it. Just branding is just branding and that’s what they’re good at. Anyway. That’s my driving force of my lc business. That’s the big overall goal of [inaudible] business. Legal Zoom is like the jets, you know, for me, I want to conquer them and take them down as far as being a bigger force in the LLC business.
